Shop Hop Saturday--A Sewing Frenzy

Yes, I have been in a sewing frenzy this past week. And, I want to just keep sewing and sewing!!

If you recall my mountain climbing goals are:
1.  Build a new squidoo lens each week as well as update at least 2 others.
2.  Post at least 3 things a week to redgage.
3.  Post 2 things a week into my etsy store and continue to move other things to my zibbet store.
4.  Keep up with the reviews and regular postings to my blog.
5.  Sew at least a little bit each day. (this goes with accomplishing goal 3)

1.  I did indeed build a new squidoo lens and update at least 2.
2.  Just today I hopped over to redgage and shared 3 photos.  I'm not done working in there yet, want to get some views done for some that I am following.  I also need to move the photos to the Petting Zoo album too.
3.  I finished up 2 fabric bags and have them listed in my etsy store.

Last week I also moved 3 of the expired items that are Christmas back in to my store.  I need to get busy and more some of the other expired items in to my zibbet store.

4.  I have kept up with my regular blog posts but still am way behind in getting reviews done.  I have several and two of them right now include giveaways.  I hope to get to one of those this evening.

5.  You already know I've been in a sewing frenzy  LOL   However, I am just about out of thread to sew with.  Money isn't good right now for buying more.  I'm trying to win some on listia but so far keep getting outbid.  If nothing else though, I can still do sewing related things each day like cutting material etc.

That's it for my report this week.  I am linking up with abitosunshine:

Frugal Friday Link Up--4 Uses for Corn Starch

This week has flown by--Friday is already here.  Also, Happy Veteran's Day to all.

I do have a couple of posts I will share in the linky this week.  What I didn't post about was my small trip to Walgreen's.  I spent $3.11 and brought home Purex detergent, 10 Christmas bags and the lip care item that was on the RR.  I rec'd $2 RR for the lip care item.  Not much but still a pretty good deal.
I buy the Christmas bags when they are on sale 10 for $1.  I need a lot more yet.  Everyone on my list will receive a bag of goodies.

I've been working on my coupons this week.  I let myself get 4 weeks behind in cutting again.  This is not a good thing!

I just thought of something else.  I re-purposed 2 pairs of my pajama pants.  I cut one leg of each in to strips for the flannel toothbrush rug I am making.  The rest I cut into rags to use for cleaning.

Now on to the 4 uses for corn starch.  These are taken from the 99 Cent Solutions book.

1.  Untangle a shoelace.  Sprinkle the knot generously with cornstarch, and then work the knot.  The laces will start to slip and slide and you will be able to get the kinks out.

2.  Clean up oily furniture.  If you got a little enthusiastic with your lemon oil (or Scott's Liquid Gold), sprinkle cornstarch over the surface and leave it for a few minutes to absorb the excess.  Wipe up the cornstarch, then buff to a shine with a soft cloth.

3.  Remove a scorch mark.  Scorch your clothing with the iron?  Douse the scorch with water (not on the ironing board!), then rub a generous amount of corn starch into the stain.  When the cornstarch is dry, the stain will rinse out with the powder.  This also works on bloodstains, but a second treatment may be needed before washing.

4.  Make a gentle silver cleaner.  Mix cornstarch with water to make a thick paste.  Rub it on the silver and let it dry.  Buff it off with a lint-free cloth to bring up the shine.  This is a lot less harsh than chemicals and won't remove all the tarnish from a complicated pattern.  Many silver lovers prefer this because it throws a beautiful pattern into stunning relief.

Salvation Army Clothing Sack Sale

Last Saturday we went to the Salvation Army. We went to get my daughter a free coat. We didn't expect to find that they were having a sack sale on clothing. $7 for all you could put into one of the re-usable shopping bags.

It wasn't in the plans, but I grabbed a bag and Jasmine and I started looking around. I'm pretty happy with what we got...which is all pictured below.

I also found out that they have this sale the first Saturday of each month.

Here I am wearing a pair of jeans and comfy cozy sweater that I got. I'm also wearing a bra that I got. One that finally fits me just right. Of course I'm not showing it to you. LOL

In this one Jasmine is wearing one of the skirts she got, along with a shirt she got.

Here is the rest of what we were able to buy:A full skirt for Jasmine, a pair of pants for Jasmine that didn't fit, a pair of socks for Jasmine, a pair of pantyhose for Jasmine, a super cute snowman sweater for me to wear all December, 3 pairs of slacks for me that I've not tried on yet, a slip for me, a yellow skirt and shirt for me, a cute black top for me, a second bra for me that I've not tried on yet, and a white sweater for me.

I am very pleased with what we were able to get for the money.  At the register when they took our things our of the re-usable bag, it filled up 2 of the plastic grocery bags.
We plan on going back the first Saturday in December.

Squidoo Hopping Linky--Open Graph Tags, Giant Squids, and Facebook Module

First of all---what exactly are the Open  Graph Tags?  I messed with them yesterday.  When it gives suggestions it appears if you make a selection from the drop down it will then attach on to someone else's facebook?
I built This Day in History July 30 and the open graph tag when I put other and then History gave me History channel at the top.  I did go ahead and click that one.
When I was updating Homeschool--Books Used 2011/2012 one of the choices in the drop down was Hip Homeschool Mom, which is a blog that I participate in each week.  However, I didn't think I should put that since it's not my facebook page.  I chose none of these match.
I updated my Giant Sunflowers lens and I did choose Sunflowers for the open graph, but really don't know who or what facebook that is. (Still assuming this is facebook related)
I could sure use some help in understanding the open graph tags please.

Back to the Homeschool--Books Used 2011/2012---I still can not get the facebook fanpage module to work.  Gale got hers to work fine just putting in her url.  I have my url in and nothing.  It seems to want those numbers that I originally had before I got the 25 plus likes and now have marshasspot on the end of my url.

Finally--I had no clue that 2 or 3 months ago giant squid status was taken away from us and we had to re-apply.    I found this out in the forum attempting to get some advice on my Earn With Marsha page.   Since, I understood that as a Giant Squid your lenses weren't checked for "bad things".  Someone replied that it didn't seem I was a giant squid any longer!  I found out you now have to apply at 25 lenses, 50, 75, and 100.   I put in my application and was approved for Giant Squid 25.  After I build a few more I will apply for 50 and so on.
Speaking of the Earn With Marsha---it's raising in the ranks as I've asked for help.  At first the pop up told me I couldn't link to clixsense, hits4pay and neobux.  So, I went back and took out those links, adding under each to contact me if interested.  I hit publish and then it told me I had too many spammy words.....then goes on to tell me that they aren't going to tell me what these phrases are, to go back and look it over and try again to fix it.  Wouldn't it be easier if they would just tell me what phrases need to be changed???  I put it in to be reviewed manually.  It will probably end up being deleted, which isn't fair since there are hundreds of other lenses where others are promoting paid to clicks and such.

That is all for me this week.   I do hope you will give some lens love to the lenses highlighted in my post.  I also hope you will hop along with us this week as well.

WIP Wednesday--I've Been Working Away

I sure do feel like I accomplished a lot this past week!
I completed 2 fabric bags that will soon be listed in my etsy store.

I spent 8 plus hours one day just cutting strips for 2 or 3 quilt tops.  I'm wondering if there is enough of the plain colored material for a complete top.

Then I had some thread left on my bobbin so I decided to go ahead and start sewing together the plain material strips. Little did I know I had enough left on the bobbin to sew together 14 of them!

This is how far I've gotten on my flannel toothbrush rug. I only worked on it one day. I don't have many strips left so not sure just what to do. I found a little more flannel to cut up this morning, and it's on my lap right now. I'm working on it while working on the computer. In fact, I know I have a pair of pj pants in my drawer that the elastic is out of. I'm going to go grab those and cut me some more strips. That just might be what I need to at least make the rug a fairly decent size.

Finally, yesterday was sewing club at church. One lady said she is going to teach me something new each month and wanted to start with a scrappy quilt. It wasn't what I expected it to be at all. We didn't do more than cut out 88 of the 2 1/2 inch squares for the pattern. I worked on the 54 squares I had made. I ironed and cut them down and started sewing them together. I got 5 rows of the 9 sewed together.

Until next week I am linking up with the following blogs....and off to see what others are working on right now.

Homeschool Journal---Yikes!!

I titled this week Yikes!! because it was not a good week for book work last week.

Sunday was the usual church service in the morning.  In the afternoon we did make cake balls, so that was home ec.

Monday was Halloween.  It was a crazy day of preparing.  Jasmine is pictured to the side in her costume.  You have to understand, she never dresses up like this, therefore a costume.  She said she was a princess and borrowed the dress from a friend.

Monday afternoon she and I finished up the cake pops for more home ec.  They are pictured below, and were part of a cookbook review I was doing.  Otherwise, she did a LOT of walking for exercise with her teenage friends in the evening.

Tuesday brought the usual morning of Bible study at church.  I can not even tell you what the rest of the day was!

Wednesday we decided it was time to clean the house....and that is exactly what we did ALL day.

Thursday was supposed to be a good "school day" but we somehow managed to only do devotions, math and English.

Friday, thank goodness, we did get in what I call a full school day.  By full school day I mean that we got to each and every subject for the day.

I'm so thankful that this week started out so much better......but that is next week's post.  Have a great week!

Mailbox Monday--Two Week Catch Up

I got so busy last weekend with Halloween that I didn't find the time to do my mail call post, so this is a double week post.
Week of October 23:

I'm not going to do a full list as you can see in the picture what I got.  The Sour Patch candy I traded some of my gsn points for.  Silly I know, but I knew Jasmine would eat them right away.  Also from the week before I found Seventeen magazine, Good Housekeeping magazine and 3 pieces of hausernet mail that the kids had down from my mail spot.

In this picture a friend sent me both the Coke caps and 12 pack codes as well as the phone card.  The Voice is my next book to review with booksneeze.  The syrups are for review with free coupons to giveaway on my blog from shespeaks.

In my email for the 2 weeks I rec'd: $10 paypal from gather and $10 paypal from superpoints.  Not so great on that part.  I also sold a book through half.com as well as had money put into my checking account from previous book sales on half.com.
I rec'd my check from church for cleaning in October as well.
